SA Peanuts processes around 15 000 tonnes of peanuts per year. The processing plants have the capacity to process 30 000 tons of peanut kernal anually, which currently is 50 % of South Africa’s total peanut production. Not only is SA Peanuts one of the largest processors of raw peanuts in South Africa but has also for the last 15 years conducted peanut seed trials to improve cultivars by importing and testing varieties from the USA. Over time, SA Peanuts in conjunction with Texas A&M University, have tested and developed a high oleic Spanish variety that performs impeccably under irrigation. This places the farmer in a better financial position due to better yields and grading. These trials are expanded annually, testing new cultivars both under irrigation and dryland conditions in different regions, and will remain part of SA Peanuts’ vision for the future.
